Within a year Saturn will ingress tropical Cancer. I remember how this combination is described in many astrological texts as having to do with inhibition, repression or flattening of emotions, lack of compassion, apathy, and depression because of Cancer's association with the Moon and emotions. This was certainly the case in 1974 (Saturn's last transit through tropical Cancer) when the hippie generation began to run out of steam and instead of caring about saving the world, began to "drop out".
We have just had an election that set the stage for an interesting polarity. The republicans now have majority control of all 3 branches of government. Even more interesting is that Nancy Pelosi is now minority leader in the house. It is as if in order to balance the greater weight close to the right side of the fulcrum, the minority has to put their lighter weight to the farther left in order to bring it into balance.
I wonder what the Moon shall testify to as Saturn enters Cancer. Will she complain that mother earth (Cancer) has been made filthy (Saturn)? What about womens issues? What will happen to compassionate (Moon) conservatism (Saturn) and Homeland (Cancer/Moon) Security (Saturn)? What about the economy as Saturn, the planet of slowing / leadening, enters the bread basket (Cancer)? Each country is different, but this is more important for the Canadian and USA economies (Cancer Sun nations).
As Saturn enters Cancer it also enters Bush's 12th (whole sign) house. This area has to do with what Bush is most likely to neglect and can lead to his undoing. So Bush will probably not be inclined to put great attention to environmental issues, womens issues, etc... Yet he has put in much effort in the area of homeland security which is on the same astrological subject. Will this indicate that he will drop this issue because of the agnoia associated with Saturn? Or will he overemphasize the security aspect of it? In hellenistic astrology, Saturn is in joy here because it likes to create agnoia. It is a natural position for Saturn to express it's inherent blackness/neglectfulness.
Also Paulus and others call the 12th place the evil daimon. Schmidt says that this represents the personal tutilary (sp?) deity that tries to lead one astray. As Saturn is lord of Bush's 6th/7th houses, and Saturn is administering for these affairs (especially the 7th of foreign powers), does this mean that his preoccupation with foreign policy will lead him astray in these other matters already stated above?
Added July 25, 2003: I had an interesting insight into the crash in Santa Monica, CA when a similar incident happened in Florida at a farmers market when a senior citizen lost control of his car at a farmers market. I asked myself: "What is it with seniors losing control of their cars at farmers markets" and the answer was obvious. Saturn represents the elderly and also their agnoia. Cancer represents such places as farmers markets. The ingress of Saturn into Cancer has brought these two "archetypes" together. Because Saturn doesn't function well in the sign of it's detriment, the agnoia of seniors may be increased over the next 2 years.
